【📢 BSc(IEM) Orientation｜Successfully Held!】

The BSc(IEM) orientation sessions for senior-entry and first-year students were held on 4 and 11 August. We would like to thank all new students for their enthusiastic participation! 🙌

BSc(IEM)&BEd(SCI) orientation wrapped up on 12 August. ✨

The session kicked off with a programme introduction by programme leader Dr Chan Chi keung, followed by a group discussion that gave Year 1 and Year 2 students the chance to connect and get to know one another. SES teachers also joined in to meet and chat with our new students. 🎊

Congratulations to Dr CHENG Jinping from SES, EdUHK!

Dr Cheng has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (SVIIF) 2026 for her project:

“BioSentinel Passive eDNA/eRNA Enrichment and Sampling System”

This invention provides a portable, flexibly deployable passive eDNA/eRNA enrichment and sampling system enables efficient large-scale collection, saving 90% of time and 75% of cost. It supports eco friendly, high throughput, non-destructive biota monitoring for environmental health and sustainability.

Congratulations to Dr TSANG Yiu-fai from SES, EdUHK!

Dr Tsang has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (SVIIF) 2026 for his project:

“From Sludge to Structure: Transforming Waterworks and Sewage Sludge into Sustainable Concrete”

This invention transforms waterworks and sewage sludge into concrete by replacing conventional aggregates and cement. With a simple pre-treatment process, eco-friendly concrete of varied strengths can be produced for diverse applications.
 

Congratulations to Dr Steve MUNG Wai-yin from SES, EdUHK!

Dr Mung has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (SVIIF) 2026 for his project:

“AI-Steered Wireless Circuit Design for Next-Generation 6G and Satellite Transmitters”

This invention utilises a deep neural network predicts linearity in wireless 6G and satellite transmitters. This approach reduces testing time by over 70% and automatically generates and suggests 3GPP-compliant, low-current matching networks, significantly accelerating 6G/satellite design.

The MA(EfS) orientation session was successfully held on 26 August! 🙌

The session kicked off with a warm welcome speech from Dr DENG Wenjing, Acting Head of Department of Science and Environmental Studies (SES), unveiling the new academic year 🌟. Following that, Dr CHING Ping Pui, Programme Leader, provided a detailed overview of the programme structure , guiding students as they step onto their academic path.

Dr Cheng’s research focuses on environmental health, particularly in ecology and conservation, and environmental microbiology. 

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is pleased to announce that five distinguished scholars have been selected as mentors in the Hong Kong Scholars Program 2026 (Programme). With the highest success rate among the nine participating institutions, the mentors will guide five postdoctoral fellows from the Chinese Mainland in conducting cutting-edge research, further strengthening academic exchange and collaboration across the region.

This year, EdUHK nominated ten scholars, of whom five were successfully selected.

🎉🏆 Many congratulations to Dr. Jinping CHENG for winning the Network Citation Award 2026 at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK)! 

Dr Cheng’s research focuses on environmental health, particularly in ecology and conservation, and environmental microbiology. Her research addresses the impacts of anthropogenic stressors and climate change on habitat structure, community composition, and species interactions, with the overarching goal of safeguarding the environment and promoting public health. 

Graduates of the Master of Arts in Education for Sustainability [MA(EfS)] have embarked on a wide range of career paths  🌱 

On 1 August, the programme held an alumni reunion and sharing session in Shenzhen’s Nanshan District. Alumni from diverse backgrounds — including primary school teachers, ESG professionals, administrative staff, international school educators, and doctoral students — came together to exchange experiences and insights. The event truly reflected the programme’s broad applicability and strong sense of community. 

On 30 July 2026, the Global Affairs Office (GAO) at EdUHK organised a summer programme for non-local secondary school students under the Mainland Principal Nomination Scheme. 

The Department of Science and Environmental Studies (SES) took part in the programme and provided a dedicated non-local section featuring a hands-on workshop titled “From Block to Robots: Exploring Mathematics through Hands-on Learning”. 

On 18 July 2026, the “Coastal Fieldwork Experience” organised by the Department of Science and Environmental Studies at EdUHK was successfully held. The programme welcomed Secondary 4–5 students from various local schools to explore the Tai Po Campus and the marine/coastal environment in Hong Kong, gaining hands-on experience in environmental management fieldwork. This activity directly supports SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).

【🔬 STEM Education Experience Summer Programme｜Successfully Held!】 

From 2 to 4 July, the 3‑day “STEM Education Experience Summer Programme” was successfully held at the Tai Po Campus of The Education University of Hong Kong. 

The programme welcomed Secondary 4–5 students from various local schools to engage in a diverse range of hands‑on activities: 

The award ceremony was held on 14 July 2026, and a number of SES staff and students were also recognised for their outstanding achievements, reflecting the Department’s excellence in both teaching and research. 

Dr Deng has been dedicated to advancing science and environmental education, with outstanding teaching performance and strong recognition from colleagues and students alike. This honour is a well-deserved recognition of her passion for teaching, and an encouragement to the entire SES team. 🎉

教大7月4日於西九龍教學中心舉辦「她領港潮．共繪多元」婦女論壇，獲民政及青年事務局支持。論壇匯聚政、教、商界及公共服務領域的傑出女性領袖，探討女性領導力、多元共融與可持續發展。

論壇上，香港教育大學科學與環境學系署理系主任、教大全球婦女、發展及教育中心聯席助理總監的鄧文靖博士與江雪儀博士，介紹了教大在女性研究及可持續發展方面的最新成果，並預告計劃開設「中國背景下的女性研究與可持續發展文學碩士課程」及「美容康養（業務營運與管理）文學碩士課程」#。
