Research Seminar by Prof. MEI Xuefei: Sea Level Rise, Mangroves and Tidal Flats in the Context of SDG 6 & SDG 14

3:00PM – 4:00PM
D3-LP-10, EdUHK, Tai Po Campus

This research seminar by Prof. MEI Xuefei directly addresses key issues under SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). By examining whether sea level rise causes mangrove tidal flats to be lost, the seminar provides valuable water management educational opportunities and fosters cooperation on water security in coastal regions. Prof. Mei’s research on estuarine and coastal wetland ecological restoration offers practical insights into technologies towards aquatic ecosystem damage prevention. Through this seminar, participants will explore the importance of maintaining ecosystems and their biodiversity, particularly in threatened fresh-water ecosystems. The discussion will also contribute to promoting conscious water usage in the wider community, raising awareness of overfishing, and supporting sustainable fisheries in the face of climate change.
