MA(EfS) Field Trip to Tzu Chi: Advancing SDG 6 & SDG 14 through Waste Reduction and Sustainable Practices

15:30-17:00
Tzu Chi Environmental Action Center

The field trip to the Tzu Chi Environmental Action Center, offered by the SES6021 course, engaged students in exploring waste reduction, recycling, green practices, and community participation. This experiential learning directly supports SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).

Through guided tours and interactive exhibitions, students discovered how proper waste management prevents pollutants from entering our waterways, gaining practical insights into water management educational opportunities and technologies towards aquatic ecosystem damage prevention. The visit also highlighted the importance of maintaining ecosystems and their biodiversity, especially in protecting fresh-water ecosystems from contamination.

Discussions on sustainable consumption and community action encouraged conscious water usage in the wider community, while addressing the impacts of overfishing and supporting sustainable fisheries. By connecting classroom learning with real-world practice, this field trip fostered environmental awareness and empowered future educators to advance cooperation on water security and sustainable development.
