From 14 to 17 October 2025, the MA in Education for Sustainability (MA(EfS)) programme at the Department of Science and Environmental Studies, EdUHK, organised a field trip to Starfish Bay. Led by instructors of the SES6022 course, the activity aimed to integrate classroom knowledge with hands-on experience in the natural environment.

Starfish Bay is home to rich coastal biodiversity and unique intertidal ecosystems. Under the guidance of instructors, students explored the importance of marine conservation, habitat protection, and ecological sustainability. This directly supports SDG 14 (Life Below Water), particularly the targets on maintaining ecosystems and their biodiversity and preventing damage to aquatic ecosystems through technologies and practices.

The trip also aligns with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). By observing the water quality and hydrological environment at Starfish Bay, students gained a deeper understanding of fresh-water ecosystems and the importance of promoting conscious water usage in the wider community. This field trip not only strengthened students’ understanding of ecological sustainability but also equipped them with practical insights to advance water and marine conservation in their future educational careers.
