Led by Professor WU Shiu Sun Rudolf, Chair Professor of the Department of Science and Environmental Studies at EdUHK, a groundbreaking Next-Generation Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Sensor using replaceable photo-sensing film has been developed.
Professor Wu is an internationally renowned expert in marine pollution and ecotoxicology. He was the founding Director of the State Key Laboratory in Marine Pollution and served as Director of the Regional Centre of Excellence in Marine Pollution under the United Nations. He has published over 240 papers in leading international journals.
In alignment with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water), the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has introduced a groundbreaking Next-Generation Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Sensor Using Replaceable Photo-Sensing Film. Designed for real-time and long-term water quality monitoring, this innovative technology effectively overcomes traditional bio-fouling limitations, ensuring high accuracy and cost-effective monitoring across large water bodies.
By delivering reliable DO data, this innovation directly supports technologies towards aquatic ecosystem damage prevention and maintaining ecosystems and their biodiversity. Furthermore, it strengthens cooperation on water security and promotes sustainable management of fisheries and aquaculture, mitigating threats to aquatic environments and supporting sustainable fisheries resources.
This direct work exemplifies how cutting-edge research bridges community outreach and industry engagement to safeguard our vital freshwater and marine resources for a sustainable future.
